Privacy policy for Tuner Buddy and Fingering Charts
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Tuner Buddy and Fingering Charts (the “apps”) are published by Pearce Martin (KontraBass Studios) (“we”, KontraBass Studios). This page explains what the Android apps, the web apps and this website do with information. In short: we don't collect personal information, we have no accounts, and your playing is never recorded. The apps are made for music students, including children under 13.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. We don't ask for your name, email address, location, contacts, photos or files, and our apps have no sign-in. We run no analytics or crash-reporting service of our own, and we have no server that receives data from the apps.
What stays on your device
Each app saves a few settings on your device only: your instrument, theme or day/night look, tuner and metronome options, which themes you unlocked, and whether ads were removed. Uninstalling an Android app deletes them (Android's backup may keep a copy in your Google account if you have device backup turned on). The web apps keep the same kind of settings in your browser's local storage; clearing site data deletes them.
Microphone (Tuner Buddy only)
The tuner uses the microphone to hear the note you play. Sound is analyzed on your device, in the moment, to find the pitch. It is not recorded, saved or sent to us or anyone else. The microphone is not used on the metronome screen. Android and your browser ask your permission first. Fingering Charts never uses the microphone.
Ads in the Android apps
The free Android apps show ads from Google AdMob: one banner at the bottom of the screen, and optional rewarded videos. Because these apps are directed to children, we set every ad request as child-directed and for users under the age of consent, so ads are not personalized, and we allow only ads rated G. The apps do not use or ask for your device's advertising ID. Google shows a consent form where the law requires one. To deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, AdMob may receive technical information such as your IP address, device model, operating system and app version. See Google's Privacy Policy and how AdMob uses data.
Rewarded videos. A video plays only when a student taps a locked theme and chooses to watch. The tuner and the charts are never locked. Watching earns the theme; nothing is bought.
Ads on the Tuner Buddy web app
The web app may show a banner ad from Google AdSense (it shows none until we turn it on). We mark every ad request as child-directed, so ads are not personalized. AdSense may use cookies or similar technology and receive technical information such as your IP address to show and measure ads. See how Google uses data in advertising. The Fingering Charts web app shows no ads.
Purchases
In the Android apps, “Remove ads” is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. It removes the banner and unlocks every theme. Google handles payment: we never see your card or payment details, only that the purchase happened, which the app uses to remove ads. You can restore a purchase on a new phone with the same Google account. Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy. The web apps have no purchases.
This website
The website has no accounts, forms, analytics or advertising. Its text uses fonts loaded from Google Fonts, so Google may receive your IP address when the page loads. Whoever hosts the website may keep ordinary server logs.
Children
Our apps are made for students including children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, and we do not let ad networks personalize ads or track children through our apps. The apps are designed to follow Google Play's Families Policy and the US children's privacy law (COPPA). Third-party services (Google AdMob, Google AdSense, Google Play) have their own privacy practices, linked above. If you think a child has given us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Because we hold no personal information about you, there is normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. You can delete the app's saved settings by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage, and deny the microphone in Android or browser settings at any time. You can ask us anything about your data using the contact below.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for meaningful changes, mention it in the app's update notes.
